Challenges
Flyers Creek wind farm was divided into multiple stages, as access to the entire site was not yet available. Tesmec assisted Elecnor with the stage known as Collector Group 3. This involved installing cables on high degree slopes through existing farmland and multiple land owners
A section of the transmission line connecting the wind farms substation to the power network could not be installed as an overhead, and Tesmec were tasked with installing the 3 kms of trenching along the edge a public road through hard rock.

Solution
Tesmec utilised our 1150 rock saw to pre-trench the rock and opened the trench with our 1075 chain trencher. Tesmec were able to minimise the time the trenches were open along the public road, by utilising out cable trailers to install the cable in the trench, eliminating the need to pull cables, which would have required the entire trench section be left open.
For the 33kV installation, Tesmec’s ST2 trencher, laying box and drum carriers were able to traverse the slopes and install the cable.

Result
This project utilised a large range of Tesmec’s machinery which enabled the delivery of the project in challenging and varied ground conditions.
